First we opened our eyes and ears to the stories and traditions of the Gorj area, particularly those of Baia de Fier. The FLYING room is on the ground floor of the boarding house and represents the continuation of the Potters’ House story – a story of leaving the nest and the importance of one’s roots.

The detail on the wardrobe is inspired by traditional 1800s dowry chests from Baia de Fier. The rhombus and the angles comprising it are symbols that represent flight, the harmony of masculine and feminine, and earth. The rhombus is one of the most sewn motifs on Romanian dress.

The FLIGHT room also includes the little “Roots and Wings” bench, whose story originates in a quote from a book: “Good parents give their children roots and wings.” The furniture is sculpted, notched or painted and was specially designed for Potters’ House. It was also included in an unusual exhibition held at the Cantacuzino Castle.

Same as the EARTH bedroom, the story of the FLYING room invites you to reflect on roots and origins.

Dulapul val

The cabinet is carved with waves and sun, expressing the rhythm and movement of water. The model is taken from the frame of the entrance door to a church in Baița. The symbols on the wardrobe are repeated on the bed, side table and door. The waves always repeated, in an equal rhythm, mean breathing, pulse, flow, rolling of moments through history.
